01 · Who we are
A combat brigade of the Armed Forces, formed by volunteers — when the country needed it most.
The brigade was formed in autumn 2014 on the basis of the 1st Special Territorial Defence Brigade. It took in the 17th, 34th and 42nd battalions — units that already had combat experience.
We inherit Cossack courage, freedom and an unbroken spirit. We met the full-scale invasion in the Luhansk region — and since then our path has run through Donetsk, Kherson and Kharkiv regions.

From Debaltseve to Vovchansk
2014 — today
2014
Formation
In autumn, at the height of Russian aggression in the east, a motorised infantry brigade is formed in Kropyvnytskyi from three territorial defence battalions.

2015
Debaltseve, Donetsk airport, Horlivka
In winter, the brigade’s units fight near Debaltseve and take part in the battles for Donetsk airport and near Horlivka.
2018
Nova Kakhovka
In November, the brigade headquarters moves to Nova Kakhovka in the Kherson region.
2019
The name of Kost Hordiienko
On 6 May, the first Infantry Day, the brigade receives its honorary name after the otaman of the Zaporozhian Sich.
2022
Full-scale invasion
The brigade meets the invasion in the Luhansk region, fights in the Sievierodonetsk direction, takes part in liberating the Kherson region and in the battles for Bakhmut.
2023
Kupiansk
Defence of the Kupiansk direction in the Kharkiv region.
2024Ongoing
Vovchansk
The brigade holds the defence of northern Kharkiv region and contains the occupiers in Vovchansk.

Otaman of the Zaporozhian and Oleshky Sich · 18th century
A Cossack leader known for his courage in the fight for independence. The brigade has carried his name since 2019 — and with it the duty to be worthy of that legacy.
